Over the coming weeks, RBIHF Development will organise a new series of specialised education programmes for coaches and support staff. These courses provide participants with the opportunity to learn from experienced IIHF instructors, develop practical skills and contribute directly to the continued growth of ice hockey in Belgium.
Places are limited, and several of these programmes are only organised at specific moments during the season. Interested participants are encouraged to register as soon as possible through the webshop on the RBIHF website.
Equipment Manager Course
Wednesday 26 August to Sunday 30 August 2026
A knowledgeable and well-prepared equipment manager is an essential member of every successful ice hockey team. This course will be delivered by an IIHF instructor and will place a strong emphasis on practical learning.
The programme will include a limited number of theoretical classroom sessions, combined with extensive hands-on training. Participants will learn how to organise, maintain and manage team equipment effectively while supporting players and coaches during practices, games and tournaments.
Video Coach Course
Wednesday 26 August to Sunday 30 August 2026
Video analysis has become an increasingly important part of modern player and team development. This course will introduce participants to the responsibilities, working methods and practical tools used by a video coach.
During the classroom sessions, the Sportway video-coaching platform will be demonstrated and explained. In the practical part of the programme, participants will work alongside coaches involved in the Nations Development Days in Mechelen. This gives students the opportunity to apply their newly acquired knowledge in a real development environment.
Body Checking Clinic for Coaches
Saturday 29 August 2026, from 10:00 until approximately 14:00
This intensive one-day clinic is designed to help coaches teach body checking in a safe, structured and technically correct way.
The programme consists of three connected parts: a short classroom session covering the essential principles, an off-ice practical session and an on-ice session during which the techniques will be applied in a hockey environment.
The clinic is particularly relevant for coaches working with players who are preparing for, or already participating in, competitions where body checking is permitted.
RBIHF Coach Certification Courses
The annual RBIHF coach-certification programmes will start with a two-day kickoff weekend on:
Saturday 12 September and Sunday 13 September 2026 MECHELEN
The certification courses run over a full year and combine education, practical assignments, development activities and follow-up throughout the season. Each programme will be delivered with the support of an IIHF instructor.
Learn to Play Coach
The Learn to Play course prepares coaches to introduce young and beginning players to ice hockey in a safe, enjoyable and development-focused environment.
The course provides the foundations needed to create positive first experiences, encourage participation and help new players develop a lasting connection with the sport.
Coach Level 1
Coach Level 1 is aimed at coaches who want to strengthen their basic coaching knowledge and improve the structure and quality of their practices.
The programme combines technical, tactical and educational development and supports coaches in creating effective, age-appropriate and enjoyable learning environments.
Coach Level 2
Coach Level 2 is intended for more experienced coaches who want to deepen their understanding of player development, practice planning, team coaching and long-term development.
The programme supports coaches who are taking on greater responsibilities within their clubs, teams and development programmes.
