Surprising IIHF Worlds in Riga Surprising IIHF Worlds in Riga

RIGA - The followers of our facebook page will already know by now. Since Friday, May 21st, the World Championship of the highest division has started in the Latvian capital Riga. The only IIHF Worlds in 2021 now and this of course because of the Corona pandemic.

This World Championship has already provided a few surprises after just four match days. For example, the home team Latvia delivered a blast in their first game, forcing a first-ever victory against Team Canada! And more ice hockey history was made. Denmark beat neighbor Sweden 4-3. It has not been an easy start for the Swedes. Belarus also won - for the very first time at a Worlds - against the Tre Kronor (1-0) while Kazakhstan put Finland aside with 2-1. Newcomer Great Britain may not have won its game against Slovakia, but it did show its teeth. The Slovaks got no further than a 2-1 victory. After three games, Team Canada is still looking for their first victory (1-5 vs. USA, 1-3 vs. GER) ...

In short, a surprising World Championship that will probably end in an unseen finale. However, we must wait until June 6th. The elimination round will run until June 1st, with the quarterfinals on June 3rd, the semi-finals on June 5th, then followed by the final on June 6th.

All matches can be followed (or watched) for free via live streaming on YouTube. Click on this link.
