Luxembourg Foxes Make Their Debut in Belgian Division 1 Ice Hockey Luxembourg Foxes Make Their Debut in Belgian Division 1 Ice Hockey

A new era for Luxembourg ice hockey began this weekend as the newly formed Luxembourg Foxes took to the ice for their first official game in the Belgian Division 1. Based at the Kockelscheuer Ice Rink in Gasperich, the Foxes represent a promising initiative by the home club Huskies Luxembourg, who are working to provide more ice time and development opportunities for their young players. With the Huskies’ first team competing in France, the creation of the Foxes allows emerging talent to gain valuable experience in Belgium’s top league.

Coached by Christer Eriksson, Development Manager of the Luxembourg Ice Hockey Federation and head coach of the national team, the Foxes are now the second Luxembourg team in the Belgian competition, joining the Beaufort Knights. The team is composed of a young and motivated group of players eager to make their mark.

Their season opener was played at their practice rink against Haskey Hasselt. The Foxes started strong, scoring the opening goal midway through the first period. Despite several chances to extend their lead, Hasselt equalized and later added a second goal. In the final period, Hasselt increased their advantage to 3-1, but the Foxes responded with a late goal to close the gap. The game ended with a narrow 2-3 loss for the Foxes, a respectable result for their first outing.

Over the coming months, the Foxes will travel across Belgium to face various Division 1 teams. While games at their home rink are not yet streamed, fans can look forward to live coverage once the new Sportway camera system is installed. The RBIHF welcomes the Luxembourg Foxes to the league and looks forward to following their journey throughout the season.
