Federation explores possible solutions for Belgian clubs in international competition
The current situation within the Central European Hockey League has created uncertainty for several Belgian clubs that have participated in this international competition over recent seasons. Following the possible discontinuation of the league, partly due to the withdrawal of HIJS Hokij Den Haag, the federation is closely monitoring developments.
The RBIHF would like to clarify that the CEHL is an independent international league and does not fall under the organizational responsibility of the federation. Decisions regarding the future, organization, and operations of the CEHL are therefore made independently by the league management.
While no official communication regarding a definitive end of the competition has been issued at this stage, the federation understands the concerns of Belgian clubs, players, supporters, and partners. For that reason, the RBIHF wants to proactively explore possible solutions and alternatives should the current competition structure come to an end.
Belgian clubs have invested significantly in recent years in sporting development, professionalization, and youth programs. The federation believes it is important that these clubs continue to have access to a competitive and stable international environment that supports further growth and development.
Therefore, several possible pathways and collaborative opportunities are currently being evaluated in consultation with the involved clubs and partners. The main objective remains to support Belgian clubs and contribute to a sustainable future for top-level Belgian ice hockey.
The federation will provide further updates once there is more clarity within the international landscape and ongoing discussions have progressed further.
