HERENTALS - The Ice rink of sport vlaanderen in Herentals was this year’s epicenter of the Belgian cup final.
For an overfull stadium both HYC Herentals and BULLDOGS Liege battelled for the Belgian Title.
HYC, playing on home ice pulled the game already early in the first period to their side. Niskanen Roope Juhani #14 shot the puck after 8 minutes in the game past a hard-working Liege goalie, assisted by Mitch Morgan and Vasilyev Alexander. Less than 3 minutes later, Mitch Morgan #67 added another goal to the scoreboard assisted by Vasilyev Alexander and Moons Wannes pushing BULLDOGS to step-up to counter the game.
In the second period following a BULLDOG’S penalty, HYC managed to bypass the goalie once again, and changed the scoreboard to 3-0 in their advantage. Goal was scored by Piccart Chat #2, assisted by Mitch Morgan and Vasilyev Alexander. BULLDOGS spectators had to wait till 14 minutes in the 2nd period to see BULLDOGS score the so much needed goal in an attempt to counter the game by Frank Neven #21 assisted by Meets Levi and Bryan Kolodziejcyk.
Both teams started the 3rd and final period with 3-1 on the scoreboard. Not an impossible task for Liege but immediate action was needed. Despite all efforts, HYC hit the net 2 more times 7 minutes in the 3rd period (De Ceuster Jack #52 assisted by Rik Cuylen) and 2 minutes before end by captain Mitch Morgan.
HYC can call itself the new Belgian Cup holder 2023-2024.
