U18 Women's Worlds: Belgian Girls U18 also beat New Zealand U18 Women's Worlds: Belgian Girls U18 also beat New Zealand

SOFIA - Today, January 31, the national women's team U18 played the fourth match of its World Cup CAMPAIGN DIV2B in the Bulgarian capital Sofia. The opponent of this fourth day was New Zealand. In an unprecedented, but also not to be underestimated opponent from Oceania.

Midway through the first period, the Ice Ferns score their first goal against our girls. However, when New Zealand’s Hollyer goes to the penalty box in the fifteenth minute for an illegal hit, our girls' powerplay runs at full speed and Camille SOMMERSCHUH successfully scores on a pass from Fenna SEMPELS and Noor MEULEBROUCK.

In the second period, Louise PAULISSEN puts Team Belgium in the lead, helped by Anke STEENO. Again, using the power play to perfection! However, barely five minutes later, New Zealand equalizes through Katya BLONG. Too crazy for words, but barely five seconds (!) later Louise PAULISSEN puts our girls back in the lead. And that is simultaneously the final score as there are no more goals in the third period. Team Belgium is thus provisionally second in the ranking!

Final score: BEL-NZL: 3-2 (1-1; 2-1; 0-0) with goals from Camille Sommerschuh & Louise Paulissen (2).

MVP Team Belgium: Anouk Belmans #25
