This new and unique coaching role is added to our national certification program as part of the BELGIAN GOALIE DEVELOPMENT MASTERPLAN.
Goalies are a cornerstone of every hockey team, unique individuals with unique skills and requirements. The coaching skills to support young goalies and teach basic skills are much different from a player coach. A more individual approach, specific skating skills, positioning, specific techniques etc are all part of a goalie coach tasks.
Also, goalie recruitment and retention are essential and specific…How to work with starting goalies, how to motivate and how to teach are all area’s that are part of this unique GOALIE COACHING certificate.
As this position will become mandatory for every club starting the 2026-2027 season, we highly recommend clubs to invest into this role for your youth program. More goalie specific requirements will be rolled out over the next months to further support and push goalie recruitment and coaching.
The program is divided into different parts.
- The 2-day theoretical course
- Theoretical evaluation (open book)
- Submission of 4 goalie specific practice plans
- Creation and execution of club goalie recruitment plan
- Practical evaluation during 3 mandatory goalie training sessions over the season.
The 2-day clinic in MECHELEN SEPTEMBER 13 and 14 are essential (attendance is mandatory)
